This week's message from Principal, Mrs Williams.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support as we head towards Christmas. We are certainly not in the same position as some schools in the country but we are very much feeling the effects of Covid. Last week the BBC reported The number of pupils absent from school in England because of Covid rose by about 60% in the two weeks to Thursday last week, official figures show.
The national figure shows that attendance in secondary schools is at 89% which usually compares to 95%. I am pleased to say that we are sitting at about 92% so thank you all for your support in getting your son or daughter into school. I am relieved to tell you we have managed to contain the year 7 outbreak and we are keeping a careful eye on all the other year groups. As you may be aware Covid has had an impact on our staff body and the availability of external cover teachers, so finally I thank you for all your positive comments with regard to this Friday's Bank holiday. I am exceptionally proud of my staff and the resilience they have shown over the past 20 months with regard to the pandemic, they rarely complain and their dedication to the students here is unquestionable.
Today I sent them this image and reminded them to; look after themselves using the resources we have on our wellbeing web page and I would like to share the same message with parents and students.

Thank you also for supporting the reintroduction of face coverings in communal areas. We have seen a drastic reduction in the number of disposable face coverings requested from 100 a day to about 10. You will see that we have put an option on Parentpay for a 20p contribution to our Eco fund so if your son/daughter forgets their face covering we will send you an email to ask you to support us by paying 20p.
Christmas Craft Fayre and Performing Art Showcase
As we head up to Christmas we don't want to lose our mojo, so we are still going ahead with our Christmas Craft Fayre and Performing Art Showcase, next Wednesday. Students are practising hard for the Performing Arts review and sounding fabulous in rehearsals.
Please see just some of the amazing things that will be on sale on the night below, which includes local artist, Su Blackwell who has just released a new book just in time for Christmas!
All are welcome to the Fayre, but we are asking Family and Friends to reserve a seat for the show on the following link https://forms.gle/yzP9No8BFyUVWVJ68.
Year 10 Work Experience
All Year 10 students should have now made their choices for work experience on the aspire website. https://aspire.eastsussex-brighton.org.uk/wexpupilchoiceslogin.aspx?aspirenetview=student.
Thank you to all of the students that have done this and those that have set up their own placements. There are still some students that have not submitted their choices yet, so this needs to be completed urgently. Any questions, please email Dr Neal (craig.neal@kingsacademies.uk).
Eco Hub
We had a visit from Ovesco on Friday 26th to discuss the solar farm that is proposed to be built in Ringmer. The students asked some fantastic questions which really got the Ovesco team thinking. We were all impressed with the breadth of knowledge the students have about Ringmer Parish. If you would like any more information about this project click below.
