At King’s Academy Ringmer, we believe that oracy—the ability to communicate effectively through spoken language—is a vital skill in developing well-rounded, confident individuals who are world ready. In the 21st century, communication is more important than ever, with many jobs requiring not just technical knowledge but also the ability to engage in meaningful discussions, present ideas clearly, and collaborate effectively with others. Whether in leadership, teamwork, or client-facing roles, strong oracy skills are essential for success in a rapidly evolving job market. By empowering our students to articulate their thoughts with confidence and clarity, we are equipping them with one of the most valuable tools they will need for their future.
Recognising the importance of oracy, King’s Academy Ringmer has made a firm commitment to integrating it within our curriculum, particularly at Key Stage 3. At this stage, all students participate in bespoke oracy lessons designed to help them develop their ability to debate, discuss, and express their opinions thoughtfully and respectfully. These lessons provide a structured space where students can practice speaking in a range of contexts, from formal debates to group discussions, enhancing their critical thinking, active listening, and interpersonal skills. Our oracy program is carefully tailored to support each student's growth, ensuring that every child is prepared to navigate the demands of both academic life and the broader world with confidence.
