A bumper edition with so much going on, we really have pressed the reset button. So I won’t take up too much space; I will ask you to check out our ECO section as we are looking for help and volunteers!

Thursday 3 March World Book Day

  1. We are excited to be celebrating World Book Day this year with a dress UP day, as well as holding several literacy-based events during the day.  Students are encouraged to dress up as a recognisable character from a book and will need to register their interest with their tutor beforehand.  This is NOT a non-uniform day, but an opportunity for all students who wish to take part in a celebratory event to do so.

World Book Day celebrates the past, present and future of children's literature on its 25th anniversary, with a continued commitment to promote reading for pleasure and offer every child a book of

  1. World Book day in the LRC

To celebrate world book day on Thursday 3rd March there will be a competition in the LRC.

Inspired by Charlotte Bronte’s miniature handmade books that she wrote in 1830 when she was 14, students will be shown how to make their own. They will then write a short story in miniature. There will be objects and photographs in the LRC to help inspire the imagination. The best tiny short story will win a copy of the graphic novel Glass Town by Isabel Greenberg. This immersive book is based on the imaginary world the Bronte’s created when they were children.

‘’ Glass Town is the perfect combination of clever, crazy, and just a tiny bit creepy, and will appeal to anyone who has wondered about how imagination shapes us.’’

Thank you, Mrs Colbourne

Year 10 Trip to Shakespeare's Globe

It is with great excitement that we are able to offer our Year 10s a trip to see a special school's production of 'Macbeth' on Monday 14th March.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for students, not only to watch a live theatre production of the play on Shakespeare's stage, but to revise the play in preparation for the Summer exams. Tickets are limited so please look out for the letter via Edulink and the payment details on Parent Pay.  If you know your child will benefit from this amazing cultural experience, please complete the Financial Assistance Form found on our website: https://www.kgaringmer.uk/page/?title=Pupil+Premium+and+Catch%2Dup+Funding&pid=130

Eco Hub News

Change the date! We are hoping for some lovely volunteers (yes we are talking to you Mums/Dads/Carers), to help us dig a pond and plant some bulbs and generally have a tidy up. The date will be Sat 26th March starting at 9:30am. Please get in touch with Ms Pillar and Mrs Holmes ringmer.eco@kingsacademies.uk if you are interested.

This week we put together our bird table and have positioned it on the decking of the Eco Hut (hopefully out of the wind). Our motion capture camera is now trained on it so we are hoping to spot all sorts of feathered friends. We will keep you posted!

Does my child have SEND?

It is important to remember that all children develop at different times. But if over time your child appears to have greater difficulty in areas of their learning or social and emotional development than other children of the same age or, if your child appears to have some specific difficulties e.g. physically or with their hearing or vision, they may be assessed to have SEND.

To address some of these initial concerns/worries, ESCC have compiled contact information for a range of support services together in one place, for common areas of concern a parent/carer may have about their child’s health and wellbeing as they grow up.

This document can be located  here: https://isend.eastsussex.gov.uk/does-my-child-have-send#WhenShouldISpeaktoSomeoneAboutMyChild  on the Local Offer.

Catering Update

  1. Year 10 and 11 students can now buy breakfast from the main dining room and take the food to their key stage area
  2. ParentPay - as we are a cashless school we would prefer parents/carers to "top up" their child's lunch account via their ParentPay account. We have now reopened the "cash re-val top up" machine in the main dining room for the students to put cash on their account if they need to
  3. Pancake Day - 1st March 2022.  We will be having a themed Pancake Day on Tuesday March 1st 2022, please see attached flyer with details
