The Gatsby Benchmarks
The eight Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework for good career guidance developed to support secondary schools and colleges in providing students with the best possible careers education, information, advice and guidance.
They were established as part of Sir John Holman’s research into what pragmatic actions could improve careers guidance in England. Based on international best practice, they set out what a world-class career guidance system looks like. The benchmarks are part of the careers statuary
(launched December 2017) and statuary guidance for secondary schools and colleges since 2018.
At Kings Academy Ringmer we use the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks as a foundation when planning our careers programme:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information (LMI)
- Addressing the needs of each student
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplace
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
