KAR Newsletter 20/09/2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a fantastic week.

As always at the start of term, things have been busy at KAR! We held our annual Open Evening on Thursday 12th, with once again a record number of visitors to the school. To see our students shine on this evening was a very proud Principal moment! The feedback on their confidence and politeness continued throughout the evening, and indeed the next few days where we received a number of thank you communications. This has continued through this week with Open Mornings every day, welcoming visitors into our school and touring them via our student helpers. Our guests have commented on the calmness in and outside of lessons, and how impressed they have been with the learning environment. I reiterate that our students are fantastic, and it is great to hear this validated by people new to the school. There has been a fantastic atmosphere around school this week, and our new year 7’s have been a brilliant addition to our community. There is already a real learning focus around school.

We held our first ‘Route to Success’ evening with Year 11 this Monday and we were delighted to see a large number of parents in attendance. We hope that these evenings give greater clarity on what students will be studying through the year and specific detail for individual year groups. A reminder that we look forward to welcoming the parents and carers on the following dates:

  • Monday 23 September - Year 7 - Year Group Launch Evening - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Monday 30 September - Year 8 - Year Group Launch Evening - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Monday 7 October - Year 9 - Year Group Launch Evening - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Monday 14 October - Year 10 - Route to Success Launch Evening - 5.30pm to 6.30pm

This year, we have identified parent and stakeholder engagement as a key priority on our school development plan. I have been in contact with some parents regarding an initial meeting to discuss how a parent forum might look this year, and how we can work together to support the school. We are working behind the scenes on improving information on our school website, and I would like to also revamp the newsletter given the current format has been in existence for a number of years. I think a well structured forum can also offer opportunities for a focus on key school strategic areas, consultation on key documents or policies and importantly give parents and carers a greater voice or input into the school. I will confirm the date for this next week to all parents and carers. We will also be sending out the first survey to parents in the next few weeks, so I will keep you posted on this.

I was delighted to be able to secure the second 28 bus this week, and thank parents and carers for their support and understanding. In the past 12 months there has been a lot of work and communication from the school to ensure that we have built positive relationships with the right people that can make the decisions, and we will continue to review all routes and push cases where needed. As always, we are stronger together in this message so thank you for your support and patience as it has taken a lot of work getting there.

Finally, as the school moves forward we are looking for a parent Governor to support us. If you have an interest in this role, or would simply like to enquire as to more information, please contact my PA Amanda French on amanda.french@kingsacademies.uk.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Mr Harvey
