Year 9 Options Evening
Last night we hosted our Year 9 Options Open Evening where students and their families had the opportunity to learn more about the subjects they can select for their GCSE.
Thank you to all who came out and to the teachers for so enthusiastically speaking about their subjects.
New charity club for all KS3 students
Mrs Simmons will be starting a charity club every Wednesday lunchtime for all of KS3 students in G05. This will run for Terms 4 and 5 and our fundraising efforts will be for Raystede Animal Charity in Ringmer. All KS3 are welcome, please see our flyer above.
Compass Climate Summit Filming
On 28th February 2024 Compass Catering are hosting a climate summit in London to discuss and address how they transition to a low carbon organisation. They will also share their transition plan, what they are doing and why they are doing it, as well as the impact they believe it will have.
They are hoping to open the summit with a video that includes customers across all of their sectors, including education. As a school we were invited to take part in the production of the video by filming some of our students.
On Wednesday 21st February 2024 several of our ECO rep students were invited to join in the filming. They were asked some questions about various aspects of sustainability and then were asked to read out some statements which would be included to start the summit.
This was an exciting opportunity for our students who all did an amazing job. The feedback that I received on the day was excellent. I would like to thank all the students who took part. Mrs Duckworth, School Business Manager
Taster Morning Steve Willis Apprenticeship Provider
A number of our year 10 and year 11 students had the opportunity to take part in an apprenticeship taster session from Steve Willis, a Sussex based gas, oil, electrical and renewables training provider. https://stevewillis.com/
They had the opportunity to learn about the advantages of learning a trade, how to apply to apprenticeships and labour market information relating to gas engineers. They then spent the morning having hands on experience learning how to fabricate some pipe work learning connection and bending skills in gas work. Visit to No 10 Downing Street 
On Friday 9th February, 15 of our year 9 girls had the amazing opportunity to visit No 10 Downing Street for a Q and A panel to discuss women in STEM careers.
The Lessons at 10 is an initiative set up by the Prime Minister's wife Mrs Murty with invited special guests, industry experts and charitable organisations from a range of disciplines. Kings Academy Ringmer were among the lucky few selected to be given the chance to see the home of The Prime Minister and enjoy this special event. 
The students got to hear from three amazing inspirational women talking about their careers in STEM. The speakers were Professor Dame Angela Mclean, the Government's chief scientific advisor, Dr Niki Kanani MBE -Medical Director of Clinical Primary Care for NHS England and Professor Suzie Imber a planetary scientist, mountaineer and explorer. Our students asked some fantastic questions and they were incredible representatives of the school. We are very proud of them. We were given a full tour of the house and even got to meet Larry the Downing Street cat.

Heart Stopper Competition Winners
100’s of Heartstopper fans turned up to meet the bestselling author Alice Oseman for a book signing event at The Book Nook in Hove. Two of our year 7 students Rosie and Kaydee won tickets to the event through a competition organised by the English department and the library. Students were asked to enter the competition by writing a review of their favourite Heartstopper book. The lucky winners each received a copy of Heartstopper 5 and the exciting opportunity to meet Alice Oseman and get their books signed by her. A huge well done to both students for writing such fantastic reviews.

Immunisations Team
The Immunisations Team came in today to give over 100 Year 8 students the Human Papilloma Virus vaccination which guards against most cervical and several other cancers. Thank you to the students and staff for their cooperation.
We look forward to Year 9 students receiving their tetanus, diphtheria, polio & meningitis combined vaccinations on Thursday 23rd March. Please complete the online form to consent or refuse this, if applicable. Information was emailed out to parents earlier this week and students will also be given a paper copy.
